Message from the co-chairs

On behalf of the National Capital Chapter of the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES NCC), we would like to invite you to the Canadian Evaluation Society's 2009 Annual Conference, which will be held in Ottawa from May 31 to June 3, 2009.

This annual event is the largest professional development event for evaluators in Canada. And the Ottawa region, with some 500 CES members and two graduate certificate programs in evaluation, is an incubator for evaluation practice and debate. Come prepared to learn about and discuss topical evaluation issues, renew old friendships, build new networks, and enjoy Canada's spectacular Capital Region.

The purpose

The theme of the 2009 CES Annual Conference is "Value in Evaluation." The conference will showcase four dimensions of evaluation, including: Evaluation Value for Government, Evaluation Value for the Larger Society, Evaluation Value on the International Stage; and Ensuring Value through a Stronger Profession. Whatever your area of interest, we are confident that the 2009 CES conference will provide informative presentations and workshops that are relevant to your practice in program evaluation in Canada and internationally.

The conference is also the best place to network with other professionals and experts in the field of evaluation and performance measurement. You will meet people who can provide insight or assist you in your own evaluation endeavours, and others who can benefit from your insight, experience and expertise in evaluation.

The place

The 2009 CES conference will be held at the Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa.

The hotel is located on the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO Heritage site (and in winter, one of the world's largest skating rinks). The location couldn't be better! It provides convenient access to the Byward market (for great dining, shops, fashion, and nightspots), Ottawa's many waterfront paths (for cycling, running or strolling), and scenic boat tours along the Ottawa River.

The Ottawa Valley region offers a wide range of physical splendour and rich cultural attractions, and the city of Ottawa is home to many of Canada's finest museums, cultural facilities, and historical structures, as well as the Parliament Buildings.

As you prepare your trip, you may want to begin with an e-visit to one of the following web sites: http://www.ottawa.com/, http://www.ottawatourism.ca/.

If you have any questions about the CES conference or Ottawa, or if we can help you in some other way, please contact Susan Ryan at the Conference Secretariat: [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you in Ottawa!
